female.
30-(something).
third eye blind fan since 1999.
a fan because of the lyrics (mostly).
loves to read.
enjoys vigorous exercise.
loves the smell of winter.
can be competitive at times.
can waste a lot of time pondering the impossible.
thinks science is really cool.
spent a decent amount of time in several cities on the east coast.
likes all of those cities for vastly different reasons.
musical tastes:
thick chords of distortion
melodic verses
the deep "lub-dub" a bass guitar
musical arrangements that are complex but in a subtle way
therefore i can enjoy music that is stripped down to artful lyrics and a 12-string
to fuges
some genres i have been known to enjoy:
punk (the exploited)
pop punk (screeching weasel)
goth (siouxsie and the banshees)
britpop (suede and supergrass)
mod (unrest)
indie rock (swirlies)
ambient (aphex twin and the orb)
crust (aus rotten)
bosso nova (sergio mendes and brasil '66)
bebop (dizzy gillespie)
ska/punk (citizen fish)
others (spike jones, herb alpert, dave brubeck, bessie smith, aimee mann)
spoken word (jello biafra)
memories of 3eb songs:
not a typical radio music fan, in my late teens and early twenties i worked in a bookstore and scl played all the time, i could relate to elements in that song but was not smitten.
when i first heard jumper i liked the sound of sj's voice and the beat/sound of the track. tired of all my old music i had moved into electronic/ambient (especially aphex twin) almost exclusively so hearing jumper was very different and refreshing but still had some "girth" to it.
how's it gonna be was probably one of the more pivotal songs as i "discovered" 3eb. at the time, how's it gonna be, plopped me down right in the middle of a break up i had been contemplating for a long time. it kind of made me see what my life would be like after ending a long distance/long term relationship that became way too unhealthy.
i always had this silly cheesy wish that some one would love me like sj sings about in deep inside of you although at that time my love interests were more likely to play the cure, bauhaus, or even joy division (i am blushing-why am i writing this?!)
in my mid 20's i started to really enjoy 3eb's music especially the lyrics. first time i heard losing a whole year i was in the caribbean and it just felt right.
when i heard narcolepsy for the first time, i loved the fast adrenaline part but also the slow winding bass that sounded like the undertow...and i too knew the fear of the sucking sound and it made me happy that i wasn't the only one.
blinded summed up an experience i had when i ran into an old boyfriend at a bar one night. the run -in happened maybe a month or two before out of vein was released and when i heard blinded it was exactly how i felt seeing that old boyfriend for the first time after way too many years.
and the best part about "discovering" 3eb? the songs that didn't get played on mainstream radio were so much better; like these little gems buried in the album just for me to find.
and then there's ursa major, a completely new experience since assembly formed. any of you remember the old 3eb site? i have to say, when i listen to ursa major you are all there with me in some silly and fantastical way.
